So today is the official launch of this wee blog, and I decided to celebrate with Ultimo Coffee for breakfast. (I didn't have any coffee though, d'oh). I did get an absolutely delicious slice of Four Worlds Bakery baguette with peach butter from Green Meadow Farm though. My lovely walking companion, Bethany, snagged herself an iced mocha and an almond croissant, which are both absolutely dericious (better than delicious).
Besides that, it seems like there's a lot to be celebrating today, or at least to be happy/content about. Not only is it the first day of September, which means fall is on its way (and the loud kids across the street have to go back to school soon) but here in Philly the sun is bright and shiny and it's going to top off at a lovely 75 degrees today. Oh and there's a three-day weekend coming up (for most of us worker bees, anyway). So why not celebrate with a vintage-y cocktail? Here are some suggestions:
Casino
2 dashes maraschino
2 dashes orange bitters
2 dashes lemon juice
Stir with ice and strain.
Saratoga Fizz
1 jigger bourbon1/3 jigger lemon juice
1 teaspoon lime juice
1 teaspoon sugar
1 egg white
Shake with ice. Strain. Garnish with cherry.
Moscow Mule
ginger beer
1 slice lime
Serve over ice in glass, brass or copper mug.
All above found in The Bartender's Standard Manual by Fred Powell. The copy that we use is from 1979, but you can buy an updated version here. Think I want to try that Moscow Mule. Tonight!
